Where are your Beginner Classes? I'm new!
Welcome, new yogis, we're so pumped to have you in our yoga fam! We have LOTS of classes that are “beginner friendly”, & are taught to fit the wants needs of the people in the room. It also depends on what kind of yoga you want to try. Do you wanna move & get sweaty? Do you wanna relax & lie down on pillows & blankets? Maybe a little bit of both! We’ve got you covered. Our open vinyasa flow classes are all level & open to beginners, but move quicker than some of our other classes, so keep that in mind! Try Vinyasa Basics if you’ve never “flowed” before & wanna know what it’s all about, but feel free to jump into the class that fits your schedule! If you’re looking to relax or explore the more mindful aspects of yoga, try Gentle & Restorative or Yin Yoga. Where are you located?
We are located at 80 Rockwood Place, off of East Avenue. The most well known landmark is the Record Archive, but instead of turning left when you pull on Rockwood, you turn right. Drive past the LA Fitness to the parking lot at the end. We are located on the 2nd floor, enter through the glass door with the YogaVibe decal on the window! It’s a little confusing the first time you find us, but easy once you know where we are! (Some GPS will put you on 590 because we are right next to the highway. Just FYI!)
When should I arrive for class?
Class starts AT the time listed on our schedule. Please give yourself enough time to get checked in and settled before we start class. We understand that traffic & life happen, but for safety reasons (as well as not disrupting the other yogis) we close the class 10 minutes after the time listed on the schedule. Most people come 5-10 minutes before class starts, but give yourself extra time on your first visit, to fill out paperwork, get comfortable & ready for class.
What do I need to bring?
Come as you are! You don't need anything fancier than what you'd wear to the gym to do yoga. Come dressed in comfortable clothes you can move in, and bring a water bottle to fill from our water cooler. Bring a mat if you have one, otherwise we rent them for $2. Most people do yoga barefoot, so no special socks or shoes are required.
Do I have to be flexible to do yoga?
No way! Most of us come to the mat our own mixture of flexible & inflexible, strong & weak, healthy & healing. One of the many benefits of this practice is that it builds strength & flexibility over time, so whether you've been able to touch your toes since you were 10 or can't imagine a world where that is possible, yoga is for you.
What are your prices?
Head on over to our "buy online" page & click the drop down menu to view current prices, deals and specials! In addition to our current price list, we also offer two pay-what-you-can community classes every Sunday at 10:30am & 11am, as well as pay-what-you-can Queer & Trans yoga every Tuesday evening at 6:30pm. We understand that a large obstacle for people practicing yoga is price, so we try to offer different types of classes with our staff at a pay-what-you-can rate so you can try different classes, meet new teachers, and have yoga become more accessible to more people.
What is an “Open Studio Jam”?
Open Studio “jams” are not a led yoga class. They are free times in the space for you to roll out your mat & flow, use our props, or practice Acro Yoga with our yoga fam! The term “jam” is commonly used in Acro Yoga communities, and it’s short hand for just hanging out & doing yoga! Drop in for $10, or use any YogaVibe class pass/unlimited pass. If you come to our Acro Yoga Basics class on Saturdays 1:30pm-2:30pm the “jam” from 2:30pm-4:30pm is included with class! It’s a lot of fun, feel free to come play or let us know if you have questions.
What are your age restrictions on adult classes?
Our "regular" adult classes on the schedule are 16+. We offer a kid's class for ages 3-9 opposite a regular adult class on Saturday mornings at 9:30am, and are working on something that's tween appropriate! Let us know if this is something you and your growing yogi would be interested in, we can't offer everything at once but are looking forward to expanding our youth yogi programming. If you’re interested in bringing your 11-15 year old to Acro Yoga we allow you to try with your tween on a case to case basis- email us if you’re interested!
Do I have to be Queer or Trans to attend Q&T Yoga?
The short answer is yes. This class is designed to be a safer space for the LBGTQIA community, when traditional gym, yoga & exercise settings can be intimidating for members of these communities. The long answer is that we understand that gender & sexuality exist on a spectrum. We would never "police" people who are interested in participating in class. Allies, parents & guardians of younger folks (LBGTQIA teens welcome, feel free to email us questions) are always welcome. If you're an ally offering a ride, or being a "workout buddy" we know that can be helpful and/or necessary, and we support that. Having people you know & trust with you can be a great way to get into a regular practice. Please email us with any questions you have about this class, or any other here at YogaVibe.
